Summarizing and Note-Taking

The blog post that I decided to use for this assignment is called "Helping Students Develop Understanding: Summarizing and Note Taking". The blog talks about both summarizing and note-taking and how they both are important and useful in students' learning. For summarizing it mentions that students should be able to pick out what information they may need and what they can leave out. Some methods that they talk about are the "rule-based" and "summary frame" techniques. It also mentions that both of these strategies can be met by using interactive whiteboard programs and word processing. For note-taking it says that it can correlate back to summarizing. Some methods for note-taking that they mention are "teacher-prepared", "informal outline", "webbing", and "combination notes". I think that the methods for both summarizing and note-taking can help aid Marzano's strategies by the fact that they provide detailed methods that go along with the strategies.

In Marzano's summarizing and note-taking strategies, it talks about being able to enhance the students' ability to take in information and be able to put it in their own words. The summarizing portion of the blog post can help aid this by giving techniques and methods that can be done both online and offline. Some ways you can add technology into note-taking and summarizing is by using applications such as OneNote, Nearpod, and Evernote. All of these applications allow you to take notes digitally and can be used in different ways. OneNote is one that I have used before and like to still use when I take notes online. These resources can also allow you to use the methods that are mentioned and apply them to your classroom online so that students can access them from school or home.
